Infant Optics DXR-5 Video Monitor

This video monitor is good at helping give parents peace of mind while their kids are sleeping

Features:  The Infant Optics DXR-5 Video monitor has a range that reaches roughly 150ft when there are a bunch of walls and over 800 ft in an open floor plan. It has a 2.4” screen – giving you a clear view of your kiddo day or night with it’s automatic night vision – and as it uses a frequency hopping system it is vitrually encrypted, ensuring your family’s privacy.

Pros:  “Picture is great, the night vision is clear, good sound and range!” This unit automatically powers off if no noise is sensed for 3 min and powers on again when your child wakes – this saves your battery’s life.

Cons: “The Infant Optics DXR-5 monitor puts out a static white noise when the baby isn’t making any sounds.” “The battery is not a standard size but a camera battery.” And another mom has made the suggestion, “I would change would be the beep that happens every time the monitor goes to sleep (after a period of inactivity from the camera view). Even this can be tamed, however, by lowering the over-all volume.”

What Moms Say:  “I am now going on almost a year of using this monitor, and I still think it’s overall a great monitor for the price. The picture is so clear (in day and night). “”if you are looking for something that works well and doesn’t give you any problems, this is it. if you are looking for a high-tech baby monitor, this isn’t what you are looking for.”

Price Range: $100

Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor

Are you looking for a monitor that will grow and adapt with your child? This video monitor comes with different lenses, you can have a close up one when your child is an infant and a wide angle lens when your kiddos are exploring tots, to get a wider perspective of the room.

Features:  The Infant Optic DXR-8 comes with an optical zoom lens and you are able to get an addition of a wide angle lens later, when your kids are older. The LCDscreen is large, 3.5″, and is full color. The LED display is sound activated, you can pan the camera, tilt and zoom all remotely. Works well to watch your kids during the day and night with infrared vision. No need to wake your child to peek in on them. The monitor records the rooms temperature. You can also talk-back to your kids to help comfort them as they are going to sleep, or to tell your tots to get back to bed.

Pros:   “This camera is an investment that grows with your family.” “The range is terrific,  from the front of a 3rd story condo we can go downstairs and out front to let the dog do her business with a clear picture. Once we put 2-3 brick walls between us the signal starts to go.” “Super clear sound, it’s very easy to hear our child’s coo’s and gargles, let along legitimate crying and screaming.”

Cons: You need to manually put the monitor to sleep and bring it back up – This can be quite annoying. It would be so awesome if the monitor automatically goes to sleep and wakes up when the baby starts crying!” and “When we are using the internet, we’ve noticed that it occasionally interferes with the signal of the receiver.” “I feel as though the battery life is short, we shut it off when not in use but we have to charge it every other day. Nice thing is they send you two chargers one with a long cord and another with a short cord which is convenient.”

What Moms Say:  “Considering the cost, size, and flexibility of this thing (and other similar devices), it’s pretty remarkable.” “The night vision on this camera was fantastic. It even does it automatically, no changing settings or hitting buttons when turning the lights off. I can hear things very clearly and see things very clearly! I like that I can move the camera around the whole room so when she gets bigger I can follow her around the whole room while she’s playing.”

 Price Range: $180-200

review of foscam video monitor

Foscam Video Baby Monitor

This baby video monitor is a great way to connect with your child and make sure they are secure when you are not with them.

Features: The camera comes with remote capabilities allowing you to pan the camera, tilt and zoom to watch your child’s environment – great for active toddlers – on your 3.5″ LCD screen. It scrambles the frequency so there is little interferance and your family privacy is protected. You are able to use the camera both day and night. It has a power saving feature that turns on when your kids make noise and goes to sleep when they do, saving the life of your battery. You can add additional units and monitor all of them from the “mother” device. The Foscam Monitor also comes with a talk back function so you can communicate with your child when you aren’t in the room.

Pros: The greatest range of monitor compared to any other in it’s price class. This is perfect for large homes as well as older homes with reinforced walls. “I can have the volume all the way up and not hear that ‘sound of nothing but something’. We also like that you can turn the sound off and set the sensitivity to where the screen will come on when there is a noise.”

Cons:  “The battery life is poor. As with all these monitors, the battery life is not that long. You could not leave the screen “on” and it last all night(unplugged). You can’t buy extra monitor chargers.”

What Moms Say:  “After about two months of use, I’m very pleased with this monitor and I will/have recommended it to friends.” “The controls are so easy that my 6 year old showed me how it works. The picture is clear and zoom is great.”

 Price Range:  $100

what baby video monitor is the best

Levana Ayden Video Baby Monitor

Do you have multiple kids and want to have multiple video monitors all controlled with the same device? This might be the baby monitor for you. One of the biggest perks of the Levana monitor is that it scales up – you can have up to four devices monitored by the same system.

Features:  The Levana Baby Monitor comes with a large 3.8″ full color screen. Good visibility of your child both day or night, it is able to check the temprature, allows you to talk to your child and is voice activated – meaning it saves you power! This device also doubles as a music box. You can choose to play three lullabies to your child remotely.

Pros:  “Easy to switch between units/video devices in the house.” “Great monitor, especially for the price. The video motion isn’t always perfectly smooth, and the lighted led ring sure is bright. But overall its a great monitor.”

Cons:  Image is not as clear as advertised, but definitely functional. You are unable to rotate, tilt or zoom the camera remotely. Range is limited – best in a small to medium sized home.

What Moms Say:  “I love how it only wakes up if baby is making noise. You can set the level of noise you want the monitor to wake up to. Great price compared to other similiar video monitors.”

 Price Range: $120

which baby monitor is the best

Video Baby Monitor for Smart Phone

This baby monitor is super convenient. It is perfect for parents who have access to dependable wi-fi and want to be able to check on their kids even when they are not home or if you don’t want to carry another device. You can access the video and audio of your child sleeping on your smartphone or computer.

Features:  Full audio and video capabilities. You are able to record the stream with your phone or computer to capture what is happening with your kids. Has night vision. It DOES NOT have a unit to see what your kids are doing – you will need a phone.

Pros:  Very convenient for parents to check in on their kids even if they are with a sitter or your partner parent.

Cons:  No auto-sleep function. It is constantly streaming. Only works if your wi-fi works, net goes down so does your ability to watch your child. Does not zoom well.

What Moms Say: “This thing was so easy to set up. You just plug it in, scan the tag on the camera with your phone, and type in your wi-fi password. Now I can watch what they are up to when I am at work. The only limitation is that camera needs to be plugged in and the ethernet cord provided is not that long.” “This is 100 times better than a true baby monitor, because you can see your baby from anywhere, even if you are not at home.”

 Price Range: $60

best Baby monitors review

Motorola Video Baby Monitor

In addition to many of the standard features the Motorola MBP36S monitor comes with 5 different lullabies to help soothe your child to sleep. It also has an out-of-range tone and a low-battery alert to let you know if you are about to lose the ability to hear your child.

Features: The full color LCD screen is 3.5″ wide and provides a clear image of your child up to 600 ft away, even in enclosed areas. You can remote control the camera (pan, tilt, & zoom) as well as check the temprature in your child’s room. With the Motorola Baby monitor you can play 5 lullabies to your child and talk to them without entering the room. Sound indicators tell you how much noise is in the room so you can turn the volumn down and still have visual cues. Baby unit also comes with a lightlight feature.

Pros: “The picture quality is great (even in darkness), reception is great (even if we are in a different floor), audio is loud and clear, and all the features are exactly what you need in such a gadget. Even the parent unit is great once you get to use it for a while.”

Cons:  “It works fantastic the other than it has a delay on the movements.” “The device is of great help with my baby. I am loving it. The only point I have is that it could have a way not to send the noise (fun, for example) to the parents unit. I’d love a mute option.”  Others have complained about the life of the battery.

What Moms Say: “My husband decided this was” spy” gear converted into a baby monitor (or home security setup) but wasn’t impressed.” “Love this video monitor! Great sound, great picture. The parent unit is super lightweight and easy to use. The range is amazing. My kids are upstairs and we have an 8,000 square foot house. I can take it to the opposite end of the house and still get an amazing picture and sound. So pleased!”

 Price Range: $240
