Here it is, your FREE spring cleaning checklist.

This Spring Cleaning Checklist Will Help You Get Organized

I have six kids – don’t doubt for a moment that their disasters are enough to overwhelm even a professional cleaner! A pre-made cleaning checklist is a huge help for me.

Today we are sharing our list with you. You can print it here.

What is included in a spring cleaning?

Before our spring cleaning day, I print out my list of things that need to be cleaned. Then I break it down and divide the jobs between all of us. We get to work, and our house is spring cleaned and sparkly in one weekend.

Here’s our spring cleaning list:

Living Areas Spring Cleaning Checklist

1. Wipe out all light fixtures OR stick them into the dishwasher.  We like to wash ours in the dishwasher every year or so. It’s so much easier than scrubbing off all the buildup.

2. Vacuum your sofa, recliner, and other chairs/fabric-covered couches.

3. Spot treat any stains that you find on your furniture.

4. Take a look at the carpet. Borrow a steam cleaner if you don’t have one and steam clean your carpets.

5. Dust and wipe down the leaves of any houseplants. Try using milk. Milk is leaves them sparkly and hydrated and protects them from bugs.

6. Wipe down the blades of your ceiling fan. Try using a pillowcase to keep the dust bunnies from invading the rest of your home.

7. Sort through your CDs, DVDs, books, and magazines. Discard any that are unused/unwanted OR donate them to a local women’s shelter.

8. Throw all the plastic toys into the dishwasher. Wash them on the top rack.

9. Stick any stuffed animals your kids have collected into the dryer on high heat for 20 minutes with a wet towel. The heat and dryer filter will help kill any bacteria and remove dust and lint that are on the toys.

10. Vacuum and wipe down the baseboards.

11. Vacuum and wipe down all air and exhaust fans.

12. Wipe down all window blinds.

13. Wash the windows and the window screens.

14. Wipe down all door knobs and door jams.

15. Wipe down all the switch plates in your home.

16. Wash all the curtains.

17. Roll up all large rugs and vacuum and mop underneath them.

Spring Cleaning List for the Kitchen

20. Go through the pantry and throw out all the junk food to start with a clean, healthy slate.

21. Toss any expired or food no one likes. See those remnants of random bagged foods? Throw those out too.

22. Make an inventory list of staples. This list will make grocery shopping easier later.

23. Remove everything from the cabinets and wipe them down.

24. Discard any chipped or broken dishes, unmatched lids/containers, etc.

25. Clean the top of the cabinets and fridge.

26. Place a layer of parchment paper on the top of the fridge and cabinets. Next time you clean, simply lift the paper, discard and replace.

27. Sanitize sponges – 1 minute in the microwave with a wet sponge should do the trick.

28. Clean the oven vents and kitchen exhaust fan. If possible, run any filters through the dishwasher.

29. Degrease and wash all stovetop burners.

30. Clean the oven. Make it easier by starting with a pot of lemon water.

31. Scrub all the browned cookie sheets, the bottoms of pots and pans, and other baking dishes.

32. Clean the garbage disposal.  You can make a batch of disposal cubes that will make future cleanings easy.

33. Wipe out the microwave. If your microwave has an exhaust vent, clean and wipe that down.

34. Take apart the sink aerator and get all that gunk out of your sink faucet. Soak the parts in vinegar.

35. Take apart the sink trap and rinse out the drain. Drains hold immense amounts of mold, and you don’t want those spores in your kitchen.

36. Clean your toaster. Wipe it down and take out the tray(s) underneath that hold crumbs. Dump out the crumbs and replace the tray(s).

37. As long as you are cleaning things, wipe underneath the kitchen sink.

38. Organize your kitchen cleaning supplies.

39. Make your kitchen sink sparkle. Reseal the edge of your sink if necessary.

40. Move appliances if you are able and clean underneath them. Am I the only one amazed by the amount of gross buildup that I find under the stove?

41. Wash the inside of the dishwasher! You won’t believe how easy it is with this DIY Dishwasher Recipe!

Spring Clean Up For Your Refrigerator

42. Clean your fridge. Remove all the food from your fridge and freezer. Throw away expired or unused items. Place the items into coolers with some ice to keep them cool while you clean.

45. If your freezer looks icy, defrost it. Wipe down all fridge seals.

46. Pull your fridge out from the wall and vacuum off the coils in the back of the fridge. This will help your fridge’s performance in the future. Clean the floor under your fridge while you are at it!

57. Wash all the towels to freshen them up! Add a couple of cups of vinegar to the wash. I like to wait until after the first rinse and then let them soak in the vinegar for half an hour or so and then re-wash.
