In my early twenties, I wanted to take my independence to the next level: I decided it was time that I live on my own. I was already paying a few of my own bills and working my way through college, so I thought that living in an apartment close to campus would be a great step into adulthood.
I learned many things about myself when I moved out of my parents’ home. In fact, I had quickly come to the realization that I was quite the “neat freak.” Often called a “cleaning monster” by my peers, I was best known for postponing plans in order to complete my daily cleaning routines. Of course, over the years, I have learned all about self-control and that it’s okay for a home to look “lived in.” I mean, that’s what they’re there for, right?
During my mid-twenties’ “cleaning escapades,” I noticed how much I was spending on cleaning products and wanted to find a money-saving solution. I was also very wary of the chemicals being used in a lot of my store-bought products. I then realized that I should just make my own.

DIY All-Purpose Cleaner – For Anything and Everything
One of my favorite DIY cleaners is my ultra-simple Lemony-Lemon All-Purpose Cleaner. It works on just about any surface and won’t break the bank.
For this cleaner, all you need are the following:
1 squirt bottle
1.5 cups water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
Juice of half a lemon
Place all of your ingredients in the squirt bottle and give a good shake. Sometimes, I like leaving some slices of lemon peel in the solution for extra fragrance.
I love how lemony-fresh my home feels after the use of this cleaner. It consists of ingredients that I constantly have in my pantry, so I never find myself running last-minute errands for my (occasional) cleaning escapades. (Because let’s face it: there are some things you never fully grow out of.)
Try this cleaner out and let us know your thoughts! What are some of your most dreaded household chores?
