A manicured yard does not mean a lot of work. Make the most of your garden zones and your moments outside with some of these EASY  tips to help your yard and plants be thick, full and maintence-free.

Today’s tip collection comes to us from Miracle Grow ®. They are sponsors of this post and have given us a fertilizer system, the LiquaFeed ® Universal Feeder, to test out in our garden. Watering your yard and landscaping is only half of the equation. For healthy plants, we also need to feed them with nutrients.

It is important to pick a yard management system that fits your lifestyle and I love the convenience of just hooking the food to the hose and watering our garden as normal with this water system!

Best Yard Tip

Feed it or lose it. Be sure to regularly fetilize your vegetation. Most soils, especially in developments are not high in nutrients. Fertilizing helps plants be strong year-round.

Water and feed. The Miracle Grow ® Liquafeed ® system lets you hook a fertilizer up to your hose spigot for either hand watering or a sprayer, etc. As you water your garden plants, you are feeding them – fertilizing every other week is the best for bigger, more beautiful plants.

Don’t bag your clippings. Let them be a natural mulch helping feed and insulate your lawn, trapping moisture.

Mow criss-cross. Diagonal mowing is best. Mow in rows and then row back over the grass in a diagonal pattern. This breaks the clippings down even more and eliminates mow “lines”.

Go High. Longer grass is not as needy, it requires less water and is able to sustain more abuse. Making it perfect for a kid-friendly yard!

Love grass but want to keep it out of certain areas? Try Baking Soda. You can sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda around paving stones to Kill plant life between the gaps.

Protect the life of your mower. Change it’s fliud levels regularly and try using a Silicone spray on the lawnmower blades. The silicone will help keep the blades sharp as grass won’t stick to them and corrode the edge as much.

Don’t forget your bushes! Your bushes will love a boost in calcium and other nutrients – you can make your own with Egg shell powder! Simply put some egg shells into the blender and give it a whirl. Add this to the mulch around your bushes.

Twice a week. That is how often experts say backyard plants should be watered once it is well-established. Getting on a schedule and adding fertilizer to your watering will help your garden plants reach that point even faster.

Foods to regrow. You can use Miracle Grow ® to feed your plants, but what about your table? Here is a list of foods that you can buy at the grocery store once and re-grow over and over again in your garden or even indoors for a lifetime of food.

Breathe. Even your lawn needs a breath of fresh air. Try making a pair of Lawn Aerating Shoes. As you walk around your yard you will break up compacted soil giving roots a chance to grow more effectively.

Embrace the bugs. There are a number of bugs that are helpful for your garden. Ladybugs, praying mantises, bees, and even many spiders are helpful at keeping the pesky bugs at bay. Consider building a “bug hotel” to make your backyard a more bug-friendly place.

Life starts here – in your home. So above all, have fun! Yards are meant to be enjoyed! Landscape your gardens with kids in mind. Here are some ideas for outdoor play zones that you can create in your yard.
