Why Flavored Butter?

You don’t have to be a trained chef to make your own flavored butter at home. In fact, compound butter recipes are probably some of the easiest things to make.

For sweet butters, honey, brown sugar, and berries are common ingredients. Sweet butter is a great way to make any bridal shower or holiday brunch feel a little more special.

When it comes to savory butter recipes, you’ll often find a combination of herbs and garlic that compliment a variety of proteins and vegetables.

Tips for making Flavored Butters

  • Start with good quality butter. Premium butter is worth the cost when you want to make something special like homemade compound butter.
  • Use fresh ingredients. Whenever possible use fresh herbs and other ingredients for the best flavor.
  • A rubber spatula is very helpful for getting the butter out of the bowl and spreading it onto parchment paper.
  • Homemade flavored butter will last 5-7 days in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer if stored properly.

How to Make Flavored Butter

To make compound butter, you can use a food processor, stand mixer or hand mixer. Of course, you can also just add it all to a bowl and mix it by hand, too.

  1. Combine softened butter with your favorite herbs, spices, and other seasonings.
  2. Transfer the butter mixture to a piece of parchment paper or wax paper.
  3. Roll the butter up into a log and twist the ends like a piece of candy.
  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
