When summer arrives it means most families spend a lot more time outdoors! We posted about family-friendly backyard ideas before, so we figured why not share some fun backyard games too.
Best Backyard Games for Kids and Adults
With outdoor BBQs, holiday weekends, kids being out of school, your backyard can become a pretty popular place! I have gathered some of the best backyard games you will want to play all summer long! These are for kids AND adults, which makes it awesome for the whole family!
Water Balloon Pinatas
Now, this is something all the kids in the neighborhood will be running to come join in! Milk Allergy Mom’s take on good ol’ water balloon fun is so creative.
Backyard Tic-Tac-Toe Ideas
If you have an old tree stump or even a piece of wood you can create this fun tic-tac-toe board from Chicken Scratch NY! This is a great one to make, and then store the rocks inside when they aren’t being used. On days your kids say they are bored, send them out to play!
This is a really fun and easy one to make. A Turtle’s Life for Me created this frisbee tic-tac-toe game perfect for backyard fun!
Corn Hole Boards
This is a traditional game that most households have played. Alayna’s Creations share how to make your own corn hole boards, along with how to design them. Such a great backyard game for all ages.
I have played this a few times, and it is a lot of fun! Amusing MJ has a great DIY washer game tutorial. The game takes a little practice but in time you can master it!

Oh the classic game of Jenga, that becomes a life sized backyard game! This game is so fun, and with it being life size adds to the fun! Try to place your piece on top of the tower without knocking it down!

Pool Noodle Toss
Man, this looks like so much fun! Use pool noodles to create a circle, and try and toss the ball through! I could see where kids and adults would have fun competing to see who got the best pool noodle toss! Plus, we’ve got more pool noodle ideas.
Create this yard Yahtzee from Life Sew Savory for you and your guests to play. Huge dice but the same concept of the game. I played Yahtzee so much as a kid, I could totally make this game and spend hours playing it.
Outdoor Chess or Checkers
Chess is such a great game, why not create a life size version! I actually saw this on one of DIY shows and thought it was such a great idea. You can find life size checker or chess pieces on Amazon. Use pavers to create your playing board.
