Keep in mind that winter camping is similar to summer camping, just with different temperatures. Mother Nature loves us and wants us to enjoy the beauty of the land, so don’t give up on camping just because you are worried about a few factors. Instead, plan and make your camping trip work by being prepared!

The ULTIMATE Winter Camping Checklist So Nothing is Left Behind

While these may not be all the items you need or want, here are some important items on the winter camping checklist to not forget!

1. Camping Planner

The camping planner takes you through the steps of making sure your entire camping trip is planned in an easy and fun way. The worst thing is forgetting something.  Promise.  Been there.  Done that. One trip we literally forgot the toilet paper!! Never again!  The $7 spent on the Camping planner is well worth it!!  Your sanity is worth it!!

2. Winter Sleeping Bag

A regular sleeping bag will not do. You need to find one that’s rated for extremely cold temps and lined.

3. Lined and Waterproof Boots

If you are going to be out and about trekking in the snow, then you need to make certain that your feet and toes stay dry and warm.

4. Several extra clothing items to change into

This is the one time that you don’t want to under pack. You need to make certain that you have enough clothes to stay dry and warm, and when you sweat (which you will), you need to have warm, dry clothes to change into.

5. Wool Socks

These puppies are warm! And perfect for winter camping! Wool socks in addition to your waterproof boots will have your toes nice and toasty!

6. Snow Gear

This can be waterproof gloves, hats, face masks, scarves and if you have kids, make certain that they are bringing their snow pants or snow bibs as well. Anything that you can do to keep you and your body warm and dry, do so!

7. Easy Fire Starters

It’s safe to say that you aren’t going to find any dry wood just waiting for you to start a fire in the winter months. Most wood is either wet or covered in snow. If you are wanting to try to start a fire, you’ll need to think ahead and pack some easy fire starters as well.

8. Solar Lights

Most people prefer to have an abundance of lights available when they go camping, but solar lights are so much better! They will never die because of lack of battery and they charge themselves with ease a well.

9. Can Opener

I know what you’re thinking…how did a can opener make this list? When winter camping, you may not have access to fresh food, so packing up canned goods is always a good idea. But, those canned goods are useless if you forget to pack the can opener!

10. Weather Proof Tent

Do your research when buying a tent and purchase one that can sustain the elements of the cold. They are out there, and when winter camping…they are much needed!

11. Flashlight

Even though a flashlight won’t necessarily keep you warm, you can rest easy knowing that if you need to get up in the middle of the cold night, you’ll be able to easily and without worry.

12. Extra Water

It’s true…you need to do whatever you can to stay hydrated all the time when you’re camping. Pack up refillable jugs and take as much water with you that you can.

13. Hand warmers

These are great to purchase and hold into or even put inside your shoes, too. They help produce heat for a few hours and can be a real source of heat when the weather is brutally cold.

The purpose of winter camping? Besides enjoying the beauty of nature, you also need to remember that you must stay warm and dry. Cold camping does not mesh well with winter camping.
