1. Disinfect Your Toilet with Hydrogen Peroxide.

Instead of using harsh chemicals, you can disinfect your toilet and get rid of rust with hydrogen peroxide. It needs to sit for 30 minutes before flushing. She also explains the difference between disinfecting and cleaning really well.

Cleaning happens regularly while disinfecting is something that is done after cleaning and doesn’t have to be done nearly as often as cleaning. This toilet cleaning tip can be used sparingly as a heavy clean instead of being the regular cleaning routine.

2. Homemade Toilet Cleaner

All you need is a few simple natural ingredients:

  • water
  • castile soap
  • baking soda
  • 15-30 drops of your favorite essential or baby oil

This next picture may make you go “Ick,” but for good reason… We often neglect to remove the seat to clean around the toilet seat joints fixtures. Castille soap and borax form a wonderful toilet cleaning foam, and you can use a toothbrush to really get up under the rim to buff and clean the siphon jets.

Siphon jets are the small holes under the rim of the toilet where water comes out of when you flush it. These siphon jets can really tough to get clean using just your toilet brush, so it’s a good idea to do a deep clean at least once a year to keep your bathroom fresh and clean.

12. Clean Your Toilet With Toothpaste to Avoid Chemical Smells

If you have company coming over and don’t want to stink up the bathroom with the smell of chemicals, clean your toilet with toothpaste instead. See our other toothpaste tricks while you’re at it! 13. Use Coke to Clean the Toilet (Proceed at Your Own Risk, This One Has Mixed Reviews)

Using Coca-cola to clean the toilet is a popular trick on Pinterest, but it has mixed results. It may work for light cleaning, but it appears to make hard water stains look even worse. Try at your own risk!

The magic of this cleaning method is in the bubbles, not in the actual ingredients of the coke, so you could use whatever carbonated drink you happen to have. Also, you won’t need an entire bottle, you will probably only need about a cup.

14. Unclog Your Toilet Without Harsh Chemicals

The next time your toilet is clogged (and your plunger isn’t working or you don’t have one handy), pour hot water and dish soap down the toilet. Warning: do not pour boiling water down the toilet, though, as this could crack your bowl.

This is a great bathroom hack if you don’t have a plunger or drain clearing solution available. After all, those are things we don’t really think about until we need them, huh?

Simply squirt a few drops of the soap into the toilet bowl and then pour the hot (but not boiling!) water into the toilet bowl to get it flowing again.

15. Simple and Inexpensive Toilet Cleaning Tip: Use Vinegar

Plain distilled vinegar is an effective toilet handle cleaner, too. For stains that are higher than the water reaches, soak some paper towels in vinegar and place them on the stain for a few hours. Remember to remove the paper towels from the bowl… Don’t flush them!
